Activities with National Grid
In addition to studies made on continental grid, Coreso is also involved in operational activities with National Grid.
A day-ahead process has been agreed by Elia, RTE, National Grid and CORESO. Additionally in order to define operational services rendered by Coreso to NG and RTE there are three main aspects to consider:
- In day-ahead, CORESO engineers enquires about the context of the next day in Great Britain by phone to get any significant elements for the following day (low margins, unplanned outages on IFA interconnectors), in order to analyze the consequences on the mainland system.
- CORESO also performs analysis to check day-ahead Intraday Transfer Limits (ITL) values on IFA interconnector, taking into account the whole continental EHV grid. Any constraint is sent to RTE in order to define the final published values for French side.
- Finally, based on each baseline situation corresponding to a merged DACF file, CORESO is also able to propose coordinated solutions using IFA interconnector, between National Grid and mainland TSOs, to solve the congestions on both sides of the channel.
These activities are the beginning of the cooperation between CORESO and National Grid. The next interconnector from Netherlands to Great Britain (BritNed) will obviously increase again the close cooperation needed between United Kingdom and continental Europe.
