Coreso provides the national control centres of participating TSOs with forecasts concerning the state of security within the interconnected transmission grid for the following day (‘D-1 activities’). The Coreso’s engineers base the forecasts on analysis of the data that is provided daily by the system operators, for example, consumption forecast, generation schedules, international electricity exchanges and grid topology.
Coreso’s security and coordination engineers carry out studies to analyse the security of the interconnected European transmission grids by simulating various scenarios, such as the sudden unavailability of an interconnecting line, and then formulate a plan of action required to ensure the continuing security of the transmission grid.
These studies, together with the proposed plans , are submitted to the TSOs’ national control centres which assume operational responsibility for secure operation of their respective grids. The 24/7 operation allows Coreso engineers to perform intraday security analysis studies to provide support to TSOs in case particular event occur on the transmission grid.
Furthermore, Coreso participates actively in for the CWE regional market coupling process by performing and publishing, each day, merged files representing two-day ahead forecasts for CWE area (Belgium, France, Germany Luxembourg and The Netherlands). Coreso is also one of the two Hosting Entities for that project and as such host the TSOs’ common ICT system and provide technical support regarding the technical infrastructure.
