26th November 2010: Terna and 50Hertz are joining Elia, National Grid and RTE in Coreso. Coreso is extending its coordination services to its new shareholders. See related press release
1st July 2009: Coreso starts round-the-clock operations. Coreso provides near to real time security analysis in addition to day-ahead forecasts. Studies are completed using a basis of snapshots, supplied by TSOs, of the CWE grids to provide these security analyses. Computational models provide results every 15 minutes that are used by engineers to assess the security of the European electricity system, aiding the decision making process of any measures that are required to ensure security of supply. See related press release
15th May 2009: National Grid (UK TSO) joins Elia and RTE in Coreso. Each of the three TSOs, Elia, RTE and National Grid, now equally owns 1/3 of the capital of Coreso. See related press release
1st April 2009: Appointed by the CWE TSOs as service provider in the framework of the market coupling experimentation Coreso begins delivering D-2 technical data.
16th February 2009: Coreso starts operational activities. Every afternoon seven days a week, Coreso provides forecasts of electrical flows in the CWE area (France, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) for the following day, these are‘D1 activities’. See related press release
19th December 2008: Coreso (Coordination of Electricity System Operators), first regional technical coordination centre shared by several TSOs, is incorporated by RTE and Elia, respectively the French and Belgian power transmission system operators (TSOs). See related press release
6th June 2007: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed by the German, Belgian, French, Luxembourg and Dutch governments and the concerned actors (TSOs, power exchanges, regulators, market players) to support the regional Central Western Europe initiative. The objectives of the Memorandum of understanding are to introduce market coupling between the Central Western European electricity markets and improved coordination between TSOs to ensure security of supply in Europe.
4th November 2006:
A serious electrical power disturbance in Europe caused 15 million people to lose supply due to a lack of coordination between Transmission System Operators (TSOs) in the Central Western Europe (CWE) area. The European Commission in conjunction with TSOs consider ways to improve coordination between TSOs to guarantee safe operating of the interconnected system to maintain security of supply.
