A safe and green power grid is everybody’s business – regulators, operators, advisors and citizens alike. As a Regional Coordination Centre (RCC), we have an advisory role to the European Transmission System Operators (TSOs) by coordinating European power flows, performing analyses and making recommendations. The goal? Support them to make better decisions and keep the grid safe, efficient, reliable and future-proof across national borders.
The European electricity system is complex and highly interconnected. Energy doesn’t stop at national borders, so coordinating flows is therefore essential to help TSOs guarantee a more efficient and secure transmission grid across the European continent.
Electricity is a basic need, one that everyone should have access to at all times –one that needs to be reliable. Because the social and financial impact of grid incidents are significant, our calculations and analysis support grid operators in identifying threats, taking measures to mitigate these risks, and ultimately preventing grid incidents as much as possible.
By 2050, fossil fuels need to be replaced by clean alternatives, such as wind turbines, solar parks and hydroelectric plants. As we’re transitioning into a green future, it is our job to facilitate the integration of renewable energies while monitoring and optimising their flows, which are intermittent and difficult to predict by nature.
