Coreso is one of the six Regional Coordination Centres* (RCCs) which are entities delivering electricity coordination tasks to TSOs, as foreseen by the European Third Energy Package and Clean Energy Package.
The European electricity system is complex and highly interconnected. Besides, the growing integration of renewable energy and the increased cross-border electricity exchanges make power flows increasingly variable. Power flows are thus much more difficult to predict and calculate than in the past.
Strong transnational coordination and enhanced cooperation between TSOs are therefore needed to ensure the secure, sustainable, and efficient management of the European transmission system.
In this context, Coreso plays a key role. As an RCC, we facilitate this collaboration while supporting TSOs to secure and optimise the operations of the high-voltage electricity system, across the European continent and on regional level. This is made possible through 15 regulated tasks foreseen by the European Third Energy Package and Clean Energy Package.
*Coreso, Baltic RCC, Nordic RCC, SEleNe CC and TSCNET, evolved in July 2022 from Regional Security Coordinators (RSCs) to RCCs. SCC has remained an RSC. For this website, we are using the term “RCCs” for all the six entities to ease readability.
